Assistance:
Requests
for funding will be accepted on behalf of New Brunswick residents
who have been diagnosed with cerebral palsy. When processing
applications for funding the Funding Committee gives priority
to requests for essential equipment; the amount of assistance
provided is limited by the Foundation’s resources
and the Committee may be able to fund only a portion of
the amount requested.
The following equipment will be
considered for funding:
- Communication
aids, including specialized computer equipment (personal computers and
peripheral devices are generally not included);
- Orthotic
devices, such as standers, leg and spinal braces;
- Mobility
devices such as manual or power wheelchairs, electric scooters;
- Specialty
seating;
- Crutches,
canes and walkers required for daily mobility;
- Home
accessibility aids such as "super poles", track lifts etc.;
- Bathing and
washroom aids such as bath bars, bath seats, commode chairs, shower
chairs and transfer aids;
- Other items
may be considered on a case by case basis.
The following items will not be considered for funding:
- Building renovations or vehicle modifications
- Labour costs
Persons applying for funding should follow the following
guidelines:
- Applications must be submitted and approved before the item is purchased
- Applications
must be submitted on an application form, which is available upon
request
- Applications
must be submitted by a medical professional, on behalf
of the patient;
- Applicants
must be a resident on New Brunswick;
- Applications
must include at least two quotations;
- Approved
assistance will only be paid directly to the supplier;
The Gertrude Aarela Memorial Scholarship:
A $1,000 scholarship is offered each year to one individual
with cerebral palsy, graduating from a New Brunswick High
School and planning to attend a college, university or
private vocational school on a full- or part-time basis.
The student may be enrolled in any field of study. The
deadline for the receipt of applications is May 15th of
each year. Please apply using our application form which may be downloaded from here.
Atlantic
Cerebral Palsy Conference:
The
Cerebral Palsy Foundation is a member of the Atlantic
Cerebral Palsy Association, the other members being Halifax,
NS; Cape Breton, NS; Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland.
In May or June of each year one of the members sponsors
a cerebral palsy conference in their home location and
applications are welcomed from anyone who wishes to attend.
The
conference rotates between the various member associations
in the following order:
2010: Halifax, Nova Scotia
2011: St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador
2012: Cape Breton, Nova Scotia
2013: Saint John, New Brunswick
2014: Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island
